Habitat has appointed Mark Emerson as the new chair of its trustee board.

Mark is an existing trustee, having joined the board in April 2013 and takes over as Chair immediately as Seamus McKeague steps down having served for 9 years.

Mark, a Civil Engineer with over 20 years experience in the local construction industry, is a Director with Mid-Ulster Granite.

Commenting on the announcement, Habitat’s chief executive, Jenny Williams said: “We are delighted that Mark has been appointed chair, and would like to congratulate him on his new role. His commitment, leadership and experience will be continue to be important in guiding us to deliver our strategy in what remains a challenging context. I’d also like to thank Seamus McKeague, out-going Chair for his dedication and support over the past 9 years, especially his 3 year tenure as chair. Seamus always understood that Habitat builds hope and with his input we have been able to reach more people, locally and around the world.’

Mark Emerson said ‘It is a real honour to serve as Chair of the Board, I believe in Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live and have had the privilege to see the impact both here in Northern Ireland and abroad.  I speak for all of the Board when I say it is privilege to guide the organisation, as we work to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope.’

At the recent Board meeting Joan Belton was also welcomed as a new Board member.
