Travel, together with members of Danny’s family and Habitat NI staff, to support Habitat's life-changing work with the most vulnerable in Ethiopia and honour the legacy which Danny leaves.

Habitat believes that everyone, everywhere needs a safe place to live. When people come together to work hand in hand, stereotypes are broken and relationships built and hope restored.

Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland is defined not just by the homes built; here or around the world, but by the hearts touched and the lives transformed.

When we talk about hearts touched and lives transformed, one of those who helped make that real for so many people, was our colleague Danny Burns, who is much missed. Without doubt one of kind; Danny’s sense of humour, hard work and above all his huge heart of Habitat’s mission was borne out of deep faith and a passion for peace.

Danny Burns Legacy Build will celebrate all that Danny contributed to Habitat in a way which we know he would have loved; by getting stuck in; by bringing all kinds of different people together; breaking down barriers and working beside families and communities helping them to build a better future. In Ethiopia, the vast majority of families live in poorly built, cramped homes which lack basic facilities, such as a proper toilet and clean water.

Time and again, we see how home is the start of it – a solid foundation for children to do better in school, families to stay healthy and parents to earn a stable income, just like these families:

For 14 years, people in Northern Ireland have generously supported this life-changing work through prayer, donations and volunteering. Danny volunteered in Ethiopia so it is very appropriate that the legacy build will continue that work.

Habitat co-ordinates everything for a safe and rewarding experience. You don’t need special skills to take part. Time will be set aside every day for reflection.

Day 1-3                Depart Ireland, arrive in Ethiopia, cultural activity & orientation

Day 4-8                Build and closing celebration with the community

Day 9-10              Depart and arrive in Ireland

Dates dependent on flight availability.

The budget for this trip is £2,400p/p. This includes a non-refundable deposit, travel, in-country expenses and a £700 minimum donation to Habitat’s work. We ask everyone to personally contribute a minimum of £500 towards their logistics costs and to raise more than the minimum as every penny makes a huge difference to families in need.
