It all starts at home: Women's fight for shelter

Women from all around the world started their life journeys at home. They took their first steps in rooms that provided them with shelter, protection, and a chance to follow their dreams.

Some journeys are more challenging than others, but all women share an unbreakable will to live in decent conditions.

Around the world, women face prejudiceeviction and unequal rights. We know that when women do well whole families do well.

Our photo exhibition tells the stories of the inspiring women below, and the challenges they face every day.

In October as part of the inaugural One World Festival NI, we will launch a photo exhibition to highlight the inequalities in housing faced by women around the world. Come along to our exhibition:

  • Market Square, Lisburn: Monday 21st - Friday 25th October

Home is the place where dreams begin, where homework is done, music listened to, families laugh and quarrel, where we are safe.

Are you willing to share a bit about where it all began for you? Was it the place where you began to dream of your career, or maybe just the place you felt safe and loved. How would your path have been altered if you didn’t have a safe place to call home?

Share YOUR story

We're asking local women to tell their story and raise their voice for women who are still fighting for the right to shelter.
