“For I was a stranger and you invited me in.” Matthew 25:35

The images of the refugee crisis unfolding across Europe are horrifying.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have fled their homes due to conflict and persecution, as they face unimaginable fear and uncertainty.

In Lebanon, where 20 percent of the population are Syrian refugees, our Habitat colleagues are already responding to the crisis getting safe drinking water to families and working to find new ways to serve those in urgent need.

We urge our leaders to respond with compassion as they make decisions that will affect the lives of these incredibly vulnerable people.

As we do whatever we can to support our brothers and sisters in need, we remember the conditions people faced in our own history when they left Ireland desperate to find a better life.
