It is a sad fact that 1.6 billion people worldwide are trapped in substandard housing, hoping one day they can have a roof that doesn’t leak, a secure place to go to sleep at night or a floor that can be cleaned to protect against disease. Far from secure, life for these people holds very little in the way of hope and opportunity.
A gift in your will to Habitat for Humanity can give a family the chance to build their own simple, decent home. Your legacy will not only have an immediate impact on the lives of families today - it will last for generations.
Here are some examples of how your legacy can help:
£524 will build a basic home for a widow and her family in Tanzania through Habitat for Humanity's Nyumba Ni Mama programme.
£1,280 will build an earthquake-resistant home in Guatemala where many of the country's poorest people can afford land only in areas prone to tremors.
£2,650 will fund a schools programme in Northern Ireland bringing together young people from different backgrounds to work together and helping them demonstrate active citizenship at a very local level.
£2,687 will build a simple home for a Roma family in Slovakia – a people marginalised by their own country, denied many land rights and forced to live in squalid squatter camps.
£4,525 will build a home for a family in Kyrgyzstan where ordinary people are still living in abject poverty after the collapse of Communist Russia.
