Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland has won the Childcare Works Award at an award ceremony in Belfast for their innovative approach to family friendly employment initiatives.
The Childcare Works Awards have been designed to encourage and showcase leading examples of excellence and innovation in family friendly working policies.
Habitat s work is focused on helping families build their way out of poverty around the world every day. Locally thousands of volunteers from all over Northern Ireland help build a shared future by working alongside local families who need affordable homes.
With a small team of 23 the organisation assists staff with child care priorities through the child care voucher scheme, flexible working policies and BUPA family healthcare.
Speaking after collecting the award on behalf of Habitat, Northern Ireland Programme Manager, David Blake, was thrilled the charity had received recognition for its working practices.
“Our work is only possible with the commitment of a staff team who serve the vision of a world where everyone has a decent, safe place to live. It is vital that we support staff through family friendly policies that deliver the flexibility needed in today’s environment. ”
Peter Anderson, Communications and Fundraising Manager for Habitat NI, finds the balance of work and home life much easier thanks to the flexible working policies Habitat offers.
“As a parent of two small boys I need to balance my commitment to work with the need to share care for the boys. I was so pleased that Habitat understood the challenges and we worked out a compressed hours schedule that allows me to commit to both my priorities.”
