Volunteers play an important part in our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
In the 11 years since Habitat’s Global Village programme began more than 240 teams; 1 in every 500 people from Northern Ireland have built homes alongside families in need in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.
In 2011 more than 25 GV teams travelled to Romania, Malawi, Cambodia, Ethiopia, El Salvador and India to build decent, affordable homes alongside families in need. In 2012 GV volunteers will once again travel in support of long term partnership programmes, helping families build their own way out of poverty and being transformed themselves.

Global Village FAQ's
What can I expect?
Habitat’s Global Village programme welcomes all who want to make a difference by helping families in need build their way out of poverty. No construction skills are necessary and there is no maximum age limit, minimum age is 18 (16 depending on specific leadership requirements).
Every GV trip is different. You could be digging foundations, laying bricks, framing and raising walls or maybe building or renovating a home.
How much does it cost? Each of our 6 partnership countries requires a different fundraising target.
Cambodia £2050, India £2100, Malawi £2300, Romania £1350, El Salvador £2200, Ethiopia £2000
*Fundraising Challenges are correct at time of print and include flights, all incountry costs (accommodation, transport, food, water) and a donation to the work of Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat provides all the necessary training, advice and support needed to help every volunteer understand better the challenges faced by the communities they will visit and the part they will play in alleviating poverty housing.
If you don’t have enough people to make up your own team, we also provide Global Village Open Teams that are open to anyone.
How do I get involved?
A number of information sessions will be held over the coming months for those interested in particpating in the GV programme in 2012. The sessions will give further information about what you can expect from the GV volunteering experience, what is involved in becoming a team leader, as well as a chance to look at the country options and projects available. Details of these sessions will be posted in the events section or alternatively contact the volunteering department.
We hope to have 4–6 open teams travelling to various locations in Summer 2012. To sign up or for more information please contact the volunteering department on 028 90 243–686 or email gv@habitatni.co.uk
Alternatively, if you are ready to embark on your Global Village experience you can download all the relevant forms above. We are delighted to have you on board.
