2 years on from Typhoon Haiyan, your support is making a major difference to families in the Philippines.

In November 2013, one of the strongest and deadliest storms in history smashed into the Philippines. Super Typhoon Haiyan caused widespread destruction, affecting 10 million people and destroying or damaging more than one million homes. Two years on, communities across the Philippines have shown remarkable resilience as they overcome the devastation to rebuild their homes and lives.

Thanks to the generosity of people like you, Habitat was on the ground quickly. In the immediate aftermath, we helped almost 150,000 people have secure, safe shelter. Within 3 months, we had started to build permanent homes which are sturdy and strong to withstand future disasters. Two years on, almost 6,800 people are living in these homes, a solid base to plan a better future.

We're committed to helping entire communities recover and so far have also built 3 libraries, 86 schools and a multipurpose centre.

Your support is transforming lives of people like Analyn. She and her husband, like many families, have gone through the worst of times since Typhoon Haiyan. Along with 75 families in her community, she has now moved into her permanent Habitat home.

For Analyn and her husband, the thought of having a new house — and a new home — brings so much promise. This is just the beginning.

“The moment we found out, we jumped for joy as if there was no tomorrow,” she exclaims. “We no longer have to run for our lives now that we have our own safe, secure home. The feeling was unexplainable.”

We've been working in the Philippines for more than 25 years. Even before Typhoon Haiyan, 90% of our work focused on disaster response and mitigation. With your support, we will continue to help communities in the Philippines rebuild for as long as it takes.
