Habitat ReStore volunteer Aaron Burnside’s confidence and skills set has soared since he began volunteering with us.

Habitat ReStore provides training opportunities to increase employability and enhance skills for all ages and backgrounds.

At 17 years old Aaron has just completed his 2 year placement with Habitat ReStore. He is studying Retail at South Eastern Regional College and worked 2 days a week with Habitat ReStore to gain practical, hands on experience.

undefined“I’ve had a keen interest in retail ever since I did my school work experience in that area. I didn’t know about Habitat ReStore until my tutor suggested it to me. She was able to secure a 2 year placement for me and I’m so glad she did.

I love interacting with customers and help them find what they are looking for. I’ve got to know some of the regular customers and I really enjoy talking and assisting them. I also love working with the other volunteers, they’ve really supported me and I’ve learnt a lot from them.

Niall is the ReStore Manager and he’s a great mentor. I’ve learnt so many new skills, working my way up from helping with deliveries to barcoding materials and working on the till.

My family, friends, tutor and the people I come in contact with through ReStore have all commented on how much my confidence has grown since I first started and I’m really chuffed with that. I feel my time here will open doors and possibilities for my future.”

Aaron left ReStore after securing a retail placement with The Prince's Trust in Marks and Spencer and has since secured employment. Well done Aaron!
