Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian movement that welcomes to its work all people dedicated to eliminating poverty housing and making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action.
Habitat is founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, decent affordable place to live in dignity and safety.
Since its founding in 1976, Habitat has built more than 500,000 homes worldwide with a Habitat home now completed somewhere in the world every 8 minutes. Habitat has become a global leader in addressing poverty housing by helping almost 2 million people of all races, faiths and backgrounds to have a safe, healthy place to live.
Every Habitat home is built by the family who will live in it in partnership with the local community. By working in partnership with families Habitat empowers them to break that cycle and build the foundation for a secure future; improving health, increasing educational opportunities and providing livelihood support.
Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland
Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland was founded in 1994. Our local work is focused on regenerating and reconciling communities that have suffered from 35 years of conflict and on delivering affordable housing solutions in areas most at risk.
Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland is also a key partner in Habitat’s global mission raising funds to support international projects and sending volunteers in support of long-term partner programmes, helping to maximise the impact of our support. Our partnerships focus on Peacebuilding, Vulnerable Groups, Urbanisation and Disaster Response.
